We continue with our stretch of 12 games in 29 days with a game tonight against Yale at 7 p.m. at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Improving each day while we gain experience is the theme going into the week.
Were you pleased with how the freshmen performed against Dartmouth on Saturday night?
It was the first time in over 10 years that Providence started their season with two freshmen in the line-up (Gerard Coleman and Kadeem Batts). There also was a point in the game where we had five true freshmen on the floor at once. I have been pleased with our young players effort and attitude since the first day of class and practice and that did not change on Saturday night.
How would you rate the defense at this point in the season?
On Saturday night our team held Dartmouth to 25.4 percent shooting from the field. That is a very low number and, in fact, it is just the second time in the last eight years that a Providence team has held its opponent under 30 percent from the field. That being said, we are not where we need to be with the execution in our half-court defense. I am hopeful that with our work ethic we will improve rapidly in all facets of the game.
What should fans look for tonight from Yale?
Getting to the free-throw line will be important for both teams. We had 25 attempts versus Dartmouth, while Yale made 28 out of 36 in its opener versus Quinnipiac. Yale played man, zone and pressure defenses in their opener on Saturday night and we must be prepared to see all three.
Thanks for your support!
