It’s hard to believe we open up on Saturday night with an exhibition game versus Merrimack College. We have been practicing for just over a week and now we’re getting ready to kick off the season.
We’ve had some great early season practices with competition for all five starting spots and our rotation for the upcoming season. I’ve been impressed with our newcomers the most as they seem to improve every day. The most important element in our players must be their work ethic, and we see our student-athletes starting to embrace that.
In the past week I had the opportunity to represent Providence College along with Seniors Brian McKenzie and Sharaud Curry at Madison Square Garden for BIG EAST Media Day. I had many people tell me how impressed they were with these two young men and I have no doubt they’ll be successful in the future.

The official start of the basketball season kicked off with Late Night Madness on the PC campus Friday night. With a capacity crowd in Alumni Hall, our students were introduced to this year’s Friar team. I want to give recognition to the students, as we got an unbelievable turnout of over half of our students in attendance to support all the teams. It is going to be exciting to not only watch our team progress, but to watch our student support increase in numbers and vocally.
In a short amount of time we have had 5 practices and an opportunity to improve as a group. There is definitely a lot of competition this year for starting spots as well as playing time. The statistics from our practices this week should give everyone an idea where they currently stand. Thanks for everyone checking out the website (as we have over 100,000 hits already this month).
